Barbadian man given marching orders

Senior Magistrate Donald Browne says he is concerned by the number of foreigners coming to St Vincent illegally.{{more}}

Browne made his feelings known at a sitting of the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 9, 2010, after Barbadian, Devon Hurdle pleaded guilty to entering the state without notifying Immigration authorities.

An immediate deportation order was made against Hurdle.

Hurdle came to these shores on August 3, 2010, by speedboat and docked at Fancy. On Friday, August 6, members of the Rapid Response Unit were on mobile patrol in the area when Hurdle was nabbed.

Hurdle told the court he has been to St Vincent on several occasions and that he has family in Greiggs. He added that he was only visiting his girlfriend, with whom he has a child.

“I don’t believe that you came here for that…I believe that you came here to take back marijuana,” Browne opined.

The outspoken magistrate added:”You chaps are coming in from Barbados and Trinidad and we have been having some strange occurrences here….we are very concerned about this,” Browne asserted.

Prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche said foreigners are taking St Vincent for granted and doing as they feel. “Look at the port of entry your worship…we can’t let this continue to happen,” he stated. (KW)
