Magistrate warns men not to hit women
Senior Magistrate Donald Browne has once more made it clear that any man appearing before him charged with âbeatingâ women will be sent to jail.{{more}}
Browne made his feelings known at the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court on Tuesday after Campden Park resident Ennis Hector appeared before him and pleaded guilty to assaulting Suzette Rose of Campden Park on June 25, 2010.
âI am fed up with these young men…when you give them a chance and think they are behaving, they come right back here,â said an irate Browne.
Hector told the court that the only time he placed his hand on the virtual complainant was when he pulled her out of a vehicle.
âIs de fus time yuh worship…most of the other times I just threaten she,â he explained.
Stating that he is âsaddened by the behaviour of our young men in St Vincent who decide to break the law,â Browne said there are also men in this country who are doing something good for themselves as well as the country.
â…It is the few of you who are letting down the country, giving it a bad name…jokers like you are blighting the society. This country has always been peaceful, since I know it, but its all gone now,â Browne stressed.
Browne also asked, âWhere has all the decency gone? Decency has been cut out of St Vincent completely.â
Adding his voice, an emotional Inspector Adolphus Delpesche noted that âNo man has the right to hit a woman or pull her…I have a daughter and I would not want that to happen to my child…â.
Hector was remanded to Her Majestyâs Prison pending sentencing next week.(KW)
