Wounded Trinis plead not guilty to ganja possession

After spending nearly a week at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital nursing gunshot wounds, the two Trinidadians who were allegedly shot by Coast Guard officers appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Monday, July 26, 2010.{{more}}

Visibly in pain, Michel Ramcharan and Khalid Clarke walked into the defendants dock and pleaded not guilty to possession of 345,834 grams (762 pounds) of marijuana at Troumaca Bay on July 19, 2010. They were remanded in custody pending trial.

The men were jointly charged with Roger Noel and Henley McKenzie, also of Trinidad. They also pleaded not guilty to the charge and were remanded at Her Majesty’s Prison.

All four also pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempting to export 345,834 grams of cannabis. They pleaded guilty to entering the state illegally.

The matter was adjourned to September 23 for trial.
