Javier Encarnacion Barley appeared before Senior Magistrate Donald Browne on July 20, 2010, and told the court he travelled here by ship and landed in Bequia.

Barley, who walks with a limp and speaks fluent English, said he was staying in Bequia with a man by the name of “Bull”.

He said he journeyed to mainland St Vincent, where he was subsequently nabbed by Rapid Response Unit personnel in the Fancy area.

When asked by Magistrate Browne what was his reason for coming to St Vincent, Barley said his initial plan was to go to the island of St Martin. (KW)
