McMillan made his comments at the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court on Wednesday this week, shortly after Senior Magistrate Donald Browne ordered him to pay $6,350 in three months or spend 12 months in jail.
McMillan, unemployed, pleaded guilty to possession of six pounds (2,724 grams) of cannabis at his home on July 20.
The facts read out in court indicate that police officers from the Narcotics Unit went to McMillanâs home at about 11:35 p.m. to execute a search warrant in respect of controlled drugs.
During the search, PC 615 LaFleur Williams found a green and white bucket in the living room of the house which contained plant like material resembling that of cannabis.
In his explanation to the court, McMillan said he it was a friend who gave him the drug to hold. âThe man tell me he go gimme ah smoke…just hold it for him for about two to three hours…that is the same time the police come,â McMillan explained.
Upon hearing he had to pay the fine, McMillan told Magistrate Browne that he had no money and he has three children to look after. (KW)
