Cocaine confiscated at E.T. Joshua Airport

Green Hill resident, Bernard Andrew Morris will reappear at the Serious Offences Court on Monday{{more}} July 26, 2010 to answer cocaine possession charges.

Morris appeared at the Kingstown Magistrates Court on Monday July 19 before Senior Magistrate Donald Browne and pleaded not guilty to having 2,093 grams of cocaine, with intent to supply at E.T. Joshua Airport on July 17, 2010.

Prosecutor Sergeant Glenford Gregg objected to Morris’ bail, stating that the defendant is a sailor and is a flight risk. Gregg said it is alleged that Morris and the drugs were bound for Canada. “This is a bailable offence, but with this kind of charge hanging over the defendant’s head, we are saying he won’t remain here,” Gregg asserted.

Morris also pleaded not guilty to attempting to export 2,093 grams of cocaine on the same day.

Morris’ lawyer, Grant Connell, in responding to Gregg, said the only ground that the prosecution raised that has merit was that his (Connell’s) client is a flight risk. “There are means which the court can use to shackle such person if he is deemed a flight risk,” Connell noted.

He said Morris could be granted bail with conditions attached to it and proper sureties.

However, Magistrate Browne said he was not considering bail at that time and transferred the matter to the Serious Offences Court.(KW)
