The New Montrose resident, who pleaded not guilty to possession of a home-made firearm, told Magistrate Young that since he came out of jail, persons have been trying to kill him. Rogers, who is also in breach of bail conditions on a drug related matter, said he canât stay at one place too long and adhere to the curfew set by the court.
âThem shoot up my place already, so I just canât stay one place. I always have to keep moving,â Rogers explained.
The gun was found in an abandoned house close to where the defendant lives at New Montrose on June 26.
The stunned Chief Magistrate told Rogers that he was too young to be caught up in such activities.
âHow long do you want to live?â Young asked. Rogers replied, âWell, I plan to live until they kill me.â
As Rogers spoke with straight face, persons in the court room could be heard expressing sentiments of âsadâ and âlook what this world has come toâ.
When the young man appeared in Court the day before, he had pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm, but that charge was withdrawn by the prosecution.
The prosecution did not object to Rogersâ bail and he was released on $10,000 bail with one surety. He was also ordered to report the Central Police Station every Friday between 6am-6pm.
The matter was adjourned to September 30, 2010.
