When the lanky lad appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Monday, he pleaded guilty to entering these shores between June 10 and June 30, 2006, by boat without the consent of immigration authorities.
Chief Magistrate Sonya Young ordered that Gilman pay $300 forthwith or spend seven days in jail. A deportation order was also made for him.
Representing Gilman, lawyer Joseph Delves told the court that his client came to these shores to have a better life and that he had kept himself out of trouble since he arrived here.
However, Gilmanâs deportation has been put on hold. He was brought back to the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court on Tuesday, May 18, slapped with two more charges.
Gilman pleaded guilty to falsifying a passport application form and defrauding immigration officer Felicia Samuel by falsely representing himself.
On December 22, 2009, Gilman presented the application form in the name of a deceased man Calvin Franklin Anthony Abraham, of Edinboro.
Gilman should have learned his fate yesterday.(KW)
