Murder cases headline May Criminal Assizes
The May 2010 Criminal Assizes got underway on Monday, May 17, at the High Court with over 64 cases down for hearing as well as seven sentencing matters.{{more}}
Once again, murders are prominent on the list, with 23 down for hearing over the next three months. Some of those cases include: the re-trial of Police Constable Ericsson Harris, charged with the double murders of Vonley Llewellyn, of New Montrose, and Jennine Gill, of Villa Fountain road, on December 15, 2005.
Webster Woodley and Grenadian national Sheldon Bain, currently serving a 25-year prison sentences for the murder of taxi operator Peter Joseph will be on trial for the murder of Sion Hill resident, Livingston Primus, in 2004. Bain will also answer to the double murders of Rose Claire Dupont Williams and Jeffrey âLancyâ Williams, of Redemption Sharpes.
Dexter Quammie also makes the list having been charged with the 2007 murder of his wife, Kemlon Johnson.
Marlon Stokes and Roland Gumbs are jointly charged with the August 2008 murder of Atiba âCrimoâ Waldron at a gas station in Pembroke.
Shannet Cumberbatch will also have her day in court to answer to the charge of the murder of Rakeesh Sutherland on October 10, 2008, at Queenâs Drive.
At the arraignment for prisoners, only four guilty pleas were recorded. Those matters were expected to be heard yesterday.
St Lucian High Court Judge Justice Jennifer Remy will preside over the assizes.(KW)
