Fredericks sentenced to two years for drug possession

Ronnie Fredericks is now into the fifth day of his two-year custodial sentence after being found guilty of felony drug possession.{{more}}

On Monday, May 17, Chief Magistrate Sonya Young found the 27-year-old farmer of Barrouallie guilty of having in his possession 25,424 grams of cannabis and the cultivation of 22 plants of cannabis on February 15, in the Barrouallie mountains.

The illegal substances have an estimated street value of EC$30,000.

He was also given a four-month sentence on the cultivation charge. Both sentences will run concurrently.

Mitigating on Fredericks’ behalf, lawyer Grant Connell asked the court to be lenient on his client, and if a fine was imposed that he be given some time to repay.(KW)
