What about the rum?
From the Courts
April 23, 2010

What about the rum?

Garfield Lavia knows the true meaning of the phrase “doing whatever it takes”. And with that it mind, when Lavia was given a job to sell some DVDs, he exchanged them for alcohol.{{more}}

The Sandy Bay resident pleaded guilty to a charge of theft when he appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Friday, April 16, 2010.

Senior Magistrate Donald Browne sentenced Lavia to three months in prison.

The court heard that on April 15, at about 12 noon, a DVD vendor gave the Lavia 11 DVDs to sell around Kingstown. It was not until later in the day the vendor saw Lavia, who appeared to be drunk and without the DVDs or any proceeds from the DVD sales.

Lavia admitted to the court that he swapped the vendor’s merchandise in exchange for rum.(KW)
