Twenty-seven year old Tashi Sutherland appeared at the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday, December 29, 2009. He was charged with unlawfully entering the Dragon Fly residence at Mustique and stealing a quantity of jewelry and cash worth 68,485 pounds sterling. Sutherland was not allowed to plea to the offence.
Making a request for bail, defence Lawyer Arthur Williams said that the offence that Sutherland was charged for was not as serious as murder or treason.
He added that most of the items had already been secured by the police and only a few small items are left to be recovered.
Responding to the defense, Prosecutor Inspector Nigel Butcher objected to bail. He stated that some items were recovered, but police were carrying out investigations to retrieve the remaining items. He added that if Sutherland was released on bail he may interfere with police investigations.
Magistrate Zoila Ellis Browne put Sutherland on remand. He will reappear at the Serious Offences Court on Tuesday, January 12, 2009, for a bail review. (OS)
