Swann Nichols appeared before Senior Magistrate Donald Browne and was not required to plea to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Michael Pierre, also of Kingstown Park, on August 14, 2009.

It is alleged that both men got involved in argument, which resulted in Pierre being chopped several times about his face with a cutlass. Pierre received a cutlass wound to his jaw, which exposed the bottom row of his teeth and was chopped in the middle of his head, which resulted in his skull being cracked.

Prosecutor Inspector Nigel Butcher told the court that Pierre was in a very serious condition at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and had to do surgery to remove his left eye as a result of the incident.

Magistrate Browne told Nichols that he treated Pierre like a piece of meat by chopping him so badly.

The matter was adjourned to November 11 and transferred to the Serious Offences Court.(KW)
