Claxton deported back to St. Lucia

Senior Magistrate Donald Browne believes that most illegal immigrants come to St. Vincent and the Grenadines for one thing only, and that is for marijuana.{{more}}

Browne was at the time addressing St Lucian national Harvey Claxton whom he had just ordered to be deported after Claxton pleaded guilty to entering the state without the permission of Immigration on August 3, 2009.

“You people from around the Eastern Caribbean, especially from St Lucia, Barbados and Grenada, just come here for marijuana alone,” Browne stated at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court.

Claxton was nabbed in Owia.

Claxton, 27, told the Magistrate it was his first time in St Vincent and he only came on a vacation. Providing the court with a vague explanation, Claxton said, “It was my friend who told me I could come to Owia.” The non-national further stated that he understood the English language, but he mainly spoke Creole (French patois).

Browne, however, accused Claxton of lying to the court and opined that he was only hiding behind the patois. “Anyone coming to this country should have a passport to come here,” the Magistrate added.(KW)
