Calbert Hacksaw, who pleaded guilty to possession of 60 grams of cocaine, told Chief Magistrate Sonya Young that he was going to use the cocaine for his asthma. “Your worship I does get a little asthma, so that is why I had it,” Hacksaw explained.

However, his explanation did not hold water with the Chief Magistrate. “Nobody takes cocaine for asthma. You must be take me for a fool?” Young rhetorically asked.

Hackshaw, an Enhams resident, then changed his story and said that he was going to take the drug to someone. “Now that you have told me this, I believe you even less…I am disturbed that you found it wise to lie to me,” Young stated.

Young added that she is stricter when it comes to cocaine because its not grown here, and ordered Hacksaw to pay $1,500 forthwith or spend seven months in prison.

On August 7, at about 10:10 p.m., Calliaqua Police were conducting a stop and search operation at Diamond when a rental vehicle in which Hacksaw was traveling was summoned to stop. A search conducted on the vehicle revealed a black plastic bag under the front passenger seat. A transparent plastic bag containing the controlled substance was found in the black bag.

Hackshaw, along with the five other men who were in the vehicle, had denied ownership of the drug. However, when Hackshaw appeared in court on Monday, he pleaded guilty. The other men pleaded not guilty to the charge and were released.
