Browne, who opined that the attire of the drivers has improved, stated that only on few occasions would there be a driver dressed improperly. He added that he even noticed that those with long hair have it tied up neatly. âI notice that they are looking a lot better,â the Magistrate asserted. He encouraged the drivers present to pass on their mode of dress to other minibus drivers. âPlease tell the others to do it too.â Browne mentioned that dressing properly is important when providing a public service and added that it may help the public to feel comfortable when travelling as passengers.
He also told the drivers to ensure that their conductors ânot only look decent, but smell decent,â advising them to let their conductors get up earlier to take proper showers, so that they will be ready when drivers pick them up for work on mornings.
In addition to proferring commendations and advice, Browne offered the minibus drivers who did not wish to challenge their tickets a fine of $170 to be paid forthwith instead of the normal minimum fine of $250. Several minibus drivers quickly accepted, some paying the fine forthwith, while others were given one week to deliver payments.(OS)
