DaSilva to appeal 12-year sentence

The next time the Court of Appeal sits in St Vincent, 67-year-old Cyril DaSilva will appeal his 12-year prison sentence.

The South Rivers man was imprisoned on January 14, 2009 after admitting to having sex with a girl under the age of 10 on September 9, 2007.{{more}}

When the matter was called up for hearing on Monday at the High Court, lawyer Ronald Marks informed the court that he was instructed about the case that same morning and expressed his desire to represent DaSilva in any way he can. The lawyer noted that because of the prisoner’s deteriorating health, there is an argument to have his sentence reduced.

The matter was traversed to the next sitting of the court of appeal.(KW)
