With a plaster on his right jaw and his injured arm in a sling, 25-year-old Mt Greenan resident Rodrick Clouden was hauled before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court to answer the charge. He was granted bail in the sum of $8,000 with one surety.

A medical report stated that the defendant was not fit to be remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison. He was shot on the right side of his face during the foiled robbery.

His counterpart, Ervin Billingy, 29, a former police officer, also of the same address, was also granted $8,000 bail when he appeared in court a week before.

It is alleged that on December 15, 2008, two masked men approached Lotto operator Jeannette Dublin and an armed Guardsman security officer while carrying out cash collections at Jim Bobb’s Mini Mart in Mt Grenan and tried to relieve them of over $5,000. A tussle developed between one of the robbers and the Security Guard, during which two shots rang out and the failed robber was left with a gunshot wound while the other fled the scene.

Senior Magistrate Donald Browne adjourned the matter to March 26, 2009, for hearing.
