Samuel walks free from murder charge

On Monday, November 24, 2008, Michael Samuel walked away from the High Court a free man, after a 12-member mixed jury was ordered to return a formal verdict of not guilty against him in a murder trial.{{more}} Samuel was charged jointly with Webster Woodley and Grenadian Sheldon Bain for the murder of Taxi operator Peter Joseph on November 30, 2004, at Cane Hall.

The defense team in the matter had made a no case submission on behalf of all three accused last Thursday, November 20th, but Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle only upheld Samuel’s submission. The judge said after listening to submissions from both sides, he deemed that Samuel did not have a case to answer.

The matter was adjourned for the other two accused until Monday, December 1st, for closing arguments from the prosecution and defense. The judge will then decide if he will give his summation on the matter the same day.

Joseph’s bullet riddled body was found not too far from his vehicle at Cane Hall. (KW)
