Badenock, a labourer, of Layou, pleaded guilty at the High Court on Monday before Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Godwin Moses on March 8, 2008 at Layou.

He was also bonded to keep the peace for five years in the sum of $5,000 or in default spend five years in jail.

The Court heard that Moses was walking along the Layou public road on his way home when Badenock confronted him. Badenock then puts his hands in his waistband and drew a cutlass and said to Moses: “Boy, yo dead now.”

Several chops were administered to Moses, resulting in serious injuries to his left hand. A wrestle then ensued, during which Moses managed to escape. He went to the Layou Police Station and was then transferred to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, where he spent 12 days.

Moses told the court that the incident occurred because of a dispute over a gun.

Justice Bruce-Lyle said that there is a serious problem in Layou involving young men, guns and cutlasses. He further stated that something needs to be done in the area and soon. (KW)
