Judge orders Samuel be taken back to prison

Whenever accused murderer Shorn Samuel sets foot in the High Court, there is always some drama.

At the arraignment of the Criminal Assizes on Tuesday at the High Court in Kingstown, Samuel’s name was called for him to enter the defendant’s box.{{more}} As he rose from his seat on the prisoner’s bench, it became apparent that he was not properly attired.

A police officer standing at the entrance of the court accosted him and told him to put his shirt in his pants. Standing in a rigid manner and face to face with the officer, Samuel stared the officer directly in his face and refused to follow his orders.

By this time, Presiding Judge Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle had seen enough and ordered that Samuel be taken back to Her Majesty’s Prison. Samuel did not enter a plea to his murder charge and the matter was adjourned to later in the assizes.

At the June Assizes last year, Samuel requested that be given his own cell for his saftey. Samuel claimed that he was under constant harassment by prison officers and other inmates. He also stood up in the middle in the court’s proceedings and praised Allah in what appeared to be Arabic.

Samuel was charged for allegedly hacking to death 21-year-old Vermont resident Stacy Wilson on December 11, 2006, at the Leeward Bus Terminal. (KW)
