Gun-toting teen sentenced to two years three months in prison

Yet another youngster has been sent to prison for gun and ammunition possession.

Gun toting Kimmarley Douglas, on Monday at the Serious Offences Court, joined the long list of teenaged boys already sentenced to prison for illegal firearms.{{more}} Douglas, 19, of Rockies was sentenced to two years and three months.

After pleading guilty to both charges, Chief Magistrate Sonya Young sentenced Douglas to two years for having one Erma Werk .25 Semi Automatic pistol and three months for possession of two rounds of .25 ammunition on August 23, at Rockies.

A third charge was slapped on the youngster, which he pleaded not guilty to. Douglas was charged with assaulting Rohan Edwards of Rockies on August 2, 2008. That matter was adjourned to October 20 and transferred to the Kingstown Magistrates Court.

The court heard that around 1:30pm, Douglas and another man were involved in a dispute when the defendant left the scene and later returned with a black handle gun and pointed it at the man.

The matter was reported to the police and Douglas ran to his brother’s home in Sion Hill and gave him the gun to hold. Douglas’ brother was taken into custody and voluntarily handed over the gun to the Police.

Douglas told the court he didn’t point the gun at the man and that he only carried the weapon to his brother because he heard that the police were asking about him. Douglas also said he was afraid to carry the gun to the police because he thought they would have thought the gun belonged to him.(KW)
