Chief Magistrate Sonya Young placed Audain, a resident of Barrouallie, on a one-year bond on Wednesday, August 20th, at the Serious Offences Court, after she pleaded guilty to stealing one school uniform valued at $39.95. She was bonded in the sum of $400 or spend two months in prison.

Information stated that on August 19, around 12:15pm, Audain was seen shopping in Jax Enterprises along with two young children. The defendant took up the school uniform and tried it on one of her nieces. Audain then took off the uniform and placed it in a black bag and handed it to her other niece. When Audain and her two nieces tried exiting the store, the alarm went off. They were stopped and the uniform was found in the black bag that the child was carrying.

Audain was taken to the Criminal Investigations Department and admitted to the offence.

She explained to Magistrate Young that the children’s mother had abandoned them and she was the only one taking care of them. Audain further added she had already purchased other school items and she had money to buy their school shoes. “I really wanted to help them because their mother run way leave them, so I just take the uniform and think I woulda gotten away,” Audain explained.(KW)
