Grenadian charged with ammo, cannabis possession
A Grenadian national who has been living here illegally for the past four years was on Tuesday fined $400 for possession of ammunition and $375 for marijuana possession.{{more}}
Kellon Edwards, 18, pleaded guilty to having one round of .25 ammunition and 75 grams of cannabis on July 17, 2008, at Ottley Hall. He was jointly charged with Devon St John but the matter was dismissed after he pleaded not guilty.
The Court heard that at approximately 10:45 pm, members of the Rapid Response Unit were on mobile patrol in Ottley Hall when they saw the defendant sitting on a stone next to a shop and was acting suspiciously. He was approached and a search was conducted on his person. The search carried out coughed up the .25 ammunition.
A further search carried out on the shop nearby revealed a black plastic bag under a table which the defendant admitted belonged to him.
He told the court he came to St Vincent after the passing of Hurricane Ivan in 2004.
Counsel Ronald Marks who represented the defendant said that his client noted that things were much easier in St Vincent than in Grenada and that it was much better financially.
Station Sergeant Nigel Butcher asked that a deportation order be made against the young man. Magistrate Young instead ordered that he be turned over to the immigration authorities.
