Grant, 27, labourer of Fitz Hughes, was arrested and charged with having 32 pounds(14,528 grams) of cannabis with intent to supply to another at Fitz Hughes on May 3, 2008.
Chief Magistrate Sonya Young sentenced the young man to two years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the charge on Monday at the Serious Offences Court.
The Court heard that at approximately 5:30am on the date in question, Chateaubelair Police went to Grantâs home to execute a search warrant in respect of controlled drugs. While searching Grantâs room, a large taped package was found underneath his bed. The package was opened and found to contain cannabis.
Under caution by the officers, Grant replied, âIs weed, is my fo sell fo mek ah carnival money.â
Grant told the Magistrate that he does road works occasionally and has a family to support. He further said that he did not want to go back to jail, having gone there on matters of a similar nature before.
