On Monday at the High Court, Nanton, 32, a contractor of Chapmans, Georgetown was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after a nine-member jury convicted him on one count of rape.
The rape victim said that the Nanton, with four other workmen, came to her house to do some work on the premises. She said she went upstairs and had a shower, after which, she proceeded to her bedroom to fold some clothes.
She told the court that Nanton came into the bedroom, approached her from behind and put her face down in the clothes. She said he ripped her panties, placed her right foot on the bed and raped her from behind. She said the ordeal lasted about 15 minutes.
After the incident took place, she telephoned her sister and told her what had occurred. She then ran downstairs and told the other workmen what Nanton had done. The matter was reported to the Colonaire Police Station.
The Doctorâs evidence revealed that the woman had tenderness of the labia and bruises on her shoulder.
In Nantonâs evidence, he said that the sex was consensual and that he and the woman had relationship, but had never had sex until that date.
