Accused gunman refused bail
Just one week after gunshots rang out in the Rose Place area, police have arrested and charged 23-year-old Jeremy Riley of Edinboro in connection with the incident.{{more}}
Riley, who appeared before Coroner Stephen Huggins at the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court on Tuesday, was slapped with six charges including possession of one 9mm firearm pistol, possession of one round of ammunition, attempting to discharge a firearm at Ewert âEllsâ King of Pembroke on November 21, resisting arrest and damaging two vehicles.
âI ask that you give me bail because of me hand. I canât use it, I canât even bathe me self,â Riley pleaded with Huggins.
In objecting to bail, Prosecutor Station Sergeant Nigel Butcher said all of the charges stem from the same matter in which a firearm was involved. Butcher told the court that the charges are very serious and it is likely that other charges are pending and if he is given bail, it is likely that he would not show up to court.
Riley was discharged from the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital on Monday after he received gun shoot wounds to his left hand during the same incident last Wednesday. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to reappear at the Kingstown Magistrateâs Court on Tuesday, December 4, with his lawyer.
Another man was apprehended and discharged pending further investigations. (SB)
