Barbour fined $1500 for cannabis possession
The fact that Elan Barbour had a clean criminal record up until October 1, 2007, was taken into consideration when he was given a month to pay a fine of $1500 for cannabis, instead of paying forthwith, as was previously ordered by Senior Magistrate Donald Browne.{{more}} Failure to pay will result in him spending nine months in jail.
When Barbour, 20, of New Montrose, appeared at the Kingstown Magistratesâ Court on Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to having 2016 grams(four pounds) of cannabis.
Police told the court that they were on mobile patrol in Chateaubelair at around 5:30 p.m. when the defendant was seen standing at the roadside looking suspicious.
He was approached by the police who requested a search. It was during the search that the drug was found.(KW)
