Browne: “Weed isn’t going to get you anywhere except jail’

“You look tough and rugged. You mashing up your health and your life. Weed is not going to get you anywhere except jail.”{{more}}

These were the words of reprimand given by Magistrate Donald Browne to 27-year-old Kelvorn Leacock of Green Hill, as he ordered him to pay a sum of $ 1500 for having in his possession a quantity of drugs.

According to reports, on August 31, officers from the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) and the Drug Squad went to the defendant’s home at Green Hill to execute a search warrant. He was there, along with four other persons.

During the execution of the search, police found a Folgers Coffee bottle containing the drugs in a cupboard in the defendant’s bedroom, and a small quantity under a mat. The occupants of the house were all cautioned and taken into custody.

When they appeared before the Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Leacock pleaded guilty. If he is unable to pay the money immediately, he will have to spend the next nine months behind bars.(SB)
