Baggy to pay EC$9,397 or spend 12 months in jail

Pitt pleaded guilty to four counts of theft last Thursday at the Serious Offences Court.
Pitt, a former employee at the Treasury Department was charged with stealing $9,397 from the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines between May 25 and May 31, 2007.
Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman also ordered Pitt to pay compensation of $9,397 by November 2, or face 12 months behind bars.
According to Police, Pitt was caught over the weekend of June 29th at the E.T Joshua Airport attempting to board a flight to Barbados.
Pitt had tendered his resignation from Government a month before that as he intended to take up work in the British Army.
Defense Counsel for Pitt, Kay Bacchus-Browne said that there is a slight chance that her client can still get to join the Army after what had occurred.
Pitt first appeared in court on July 2, 2007 and was granted bail in the sum of $5000.
