Richardson charge reduced

Instead of answering a murder charge, Flavia Richardson will now be tried at the High Court on a count of manslaughter.{{more}}

Richardson, had been charged with the murder of Winston Williams of Ratho Mill on Monday March 19, 2007. Williams died as a result of a stab wound to the chest during a domestic dispute with Richardson.

The charge was however reduced to manslaughter by Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman on Monday at the Preliminary Inquiry and Richardson was granted bail in the sum of $7500 with one surety.

Churaman ruled that there was an absence of malice afore thought, the mental element necessary to sustain a murder case. All of the evidence given in the matter showed that Richardson was attacked.

Police found strands Richardson’s braids on the floor of the house on the day of the incident. Richardson also received a cut on her leg from the same knife with which Williams was killed.

Lawyer Ronald Marks represented Richardson in the matter.(KW)
