A 12-member jury convicted Roberts on Wednesday at the High Court after tense deliberations.

As it is known, Friday 13 is renowned as “Black Friday” and on that day back in 2005; the village was thrown in a state of shock when the partially blind Neptune, was found at her home lying dead in her bed. A post mortem carried out on Neptune’s body revealed that she died as a result of strangulation.

A total of eight prosecution witnesses were called to give evidence in the matter.

One of the witnesses called by the prosecution, led by Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Colin Williams was Diana Davis, a neighbour of the deceased. Davis said that she was at home around 11 a.m. when she heard Neptune’s dog barking. She said she looked out her window but did not see anyone. “I went down Ms Darcy and pull back the window at the living room where she normally is,” Davis said she said she saw “Dougal” (Roberts) standing at the door with two bowls in his hands. “I ask him what he doing here and he tell me he watching TV.”

Davis said she was calling out Ms Darcy, but got no answer. “After I didn’t hear anything, I ran home and hold my head and started to bawl.”

The memories were too painful for Neptune’s adopted daughter Susan Charles. Charles recalled leaving home for work around 7.30 a.m. and left her mother in the living room chair as usual. She said she placed Neptune’s food in a flask in the same chair so it could be easily accessible. “I always placed her food there because she needed assistance to move around,” said Charles.

Charles said she got a call at work, “When I got there I noticed chicken bones on the ground and when I went into the bedroom I saw my mother lying on her back with her legs spread and a pillow over her face.”

In a statement given to the police by Roberts, he said he went by Neptune around 9:10 a.m. and saw her sitting in the chair, “She ask who there and she say she go call fo help if she ain geh no answer.” Relaying the chilling facts, Roberts said he placed his hands around her throat and started choking her. “While I was choking she, I see she kick off pon me like she dead.” Roberts said he then carried her in the bedroom and “Tek off she clothes and had sex with she and when ah finish ah come out and cook some macaroni and chicken.” Roberts further stated that he went in the living room to relax and then had some food. While in the room, Roberts said the neighbour came by the window to ask for Ms Dorsie. He said he ran away and even went on the beach before being caught by Police at Richardson Gas Station.

Neptune was met at her home lying on the bed with her feet barely touching the floor, her pampers was pulled to the side and a pillow covering her face.

Jennifer Luttman, Supervisory Biologist, Biology Examiner of DNA analysis at the FBI lab in Quantica, Virginia USA said that the DNA taken from Roberts matched with the DNA taken from the deceased.

Defense Counsel for Roberts, in his closing remarks said that the prosecution failed to prove that her death was an intended result by his client. Robertson further added that there was no intention on the part of his client to do what he did. He added that by him (Roberts) committing a crime and then going to cook, proved that he is not a right thinking person.
