Fisherman fined $150 for cannabis possession

It’s either $150 or spend seven days at her Majesty’s Prison. That was the choice given to Noel Charles by Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman at the Serious Offences Court on Monday.{{more}} Charles, 36, fisherman of Campden Park pleaded guilty to having 41 grams of cannabis in his possession on June 11, 2007.

The court heard that at about 1.30 p.m. members of the Rapid Response Unit and Drug Squad were patrolling the Campden Park area when the defendant was seen at the bus shed.

Apparently recognizing the police vehicle, Charles began acting in a suspicious manner. The officers approached him, and during a search, found a plastic bag containing marijuana in a back pack he was carrying.

When cautioned by officers Charles replied, “Ah beg ah man fi ah smoke and he gimme di weed.”
