Leacock shoots son over dog
08.June.07
Two weeks ago this nation was thrown into a state of shock when a father shot his two daughters, killing one and injuring the other before ending his own life.
Earlier this week, another parent turned a gun on his offspring. On June 2nd, a father was charged at the Serious Offences Court with{{more}} shooting his son at Chateaubelair.
Sixty-year-old Earl Leacock of Petit Bordel was granted bail in the sum of $3000 after being charged with wounding his son, 33-year-old Echron Leacock with intent. The younger Leacock, who was reported to be in stable condition, was shot in his leg, chest and face about 3:30 pm last Saturday. He was rushed by car to the Chateaubelair Hospital where he received emergency treatment and was then taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) in Kingstown.
The charge is an indictable one, therefore Earl was not allowed to enter a plea. The court heard that the shooting took place during an argument over a dog.
Investigating officers told the court that the victim indicated that he did not want the matter to go any further.
The prosecution, led by Station Sergeant Nigel Butcher however made an application for the victim to be in court to state his wishes after he recovered.
Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman granted Butcherâs application and the matter was adjourned to June 18. (KW)
