Two remanded for unlawful, malicious wounding

Two youngsters, Ashroy John 22, labourer and Sylvanus Williams, 24, both of Barrouallie were dragged before the Serious Crimes Court on Monday and remanded to her Majesty’s Prison after being brought to court on separate charges of unlawful and malicious wounding.

John was charged with wounding Seaton Griffith, 20, of Barrouallie by shooting him in his arm with a shotgun at Barrouallie on April 1, 2007. Williams was charged with shooting 35-year-old Austin Gordon of Barrouallie in his back with a shotgun on April 10, 2007.{{more}}

In John’s matter, the court heard that the victim was going home from a dance at about 12:15 a.m. when he met the defendant. Griffith apparently recognised John and started running. It was said that the defendant gave chase and fired shots at Griffith resulting in the injury.

John told the court that he did not know anything about the shooting as at the time he was at the home of his girlfriend. “Me and dem boys dey don’t get in trouble,” he explained.

It was said that Austin Gordon and Williams got into an altercation which ended in blood shed.

Both defendants will return to court on June 6 for the preliminary investigation into the matter.
