Barrouallie man charged with possession of ammunition
On Tuesday at the Serious Offences Court, Meschach John, a 20 year-old labourer of Barrouallie admitted that he had just picked up some ammunition he found in the street when police came and arrested him.
For this, Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman imposed a $1500 fine on the young man to be paid by April 20 or spend three months in prison.{{more}}
On February 18, at about 7.30 p.m., the narcotics squad was on mobile patrol in the Barrouallie area when they saw the defendant walking in the direction of the police transport. The officers stopped and requested a search on John and found one round of 12-gauge ammunition in his right back pocket. When he was cautioned by the officers John replied, âIs find me find it, officers.â
In his explanation to the court the young labourer said that he was walking along the road when he saw an object in the road and out of curiosity decided to pick it up. âI was walking and my foot jus butt up pan de ting so I pick it up to see what it was. About three minutes later the police come fo me.â
Magistrate Churaman found it rather an interesting coincidence that he just picked up the ammunition and soon after the police came and arrested him.
