Cops believe DNA evidence links to Lakita Duke’s murder
When Lakita Dukeâs nude body was found in a bushy area at Diamonds near her home on Saturday, August 13, 2005, Ali Gibson was taken into custody to assist police with their investigation. Now over a year later he has been charged with her murder.
Ali Gibson, 27, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Sharda Bollers last Tuesday October 10 where the charge of murder was laid. Because the charge is an indictable one he was not required to plead and was remanded until the November 21 Preliminary Inquiry into the matter.{{more}}
The charge laid against Gibson was as a result of DNA evidence which police believed links him to the crime. The Diamond resident is currently serving an eight year sentence at Her Majestyâs Prison for robbery.
It was Dukeâs boyfriend Alfred âPhilmoreâ Allen who discovered her body after first finding one of her slippers at the roadside close to their home triggering a symphony of painful expressions mixed with shock, disbelief and anger, crippling the entire Diamond community.
Police believed that Lakita was also raped.
She leaves to mourn a son who is now four years old.
