‘Charles is a menace’

Aska Charles, a 24-year-old Georgetown man will really be counting his days after being slammed with stiff penalties by Senior Magistrate Carl Joseph at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday, May 17, 2005.

“His charges are many,” said Joseph, which range from stealing a spray can, a cooking gas bottle, body spray, leather belts and many other items including a donkey. {{more}}

The court was told that the defendant started stealing from his 70-year-old grandfather Arthur London of Georgetown in January of this year, but his ‘speed was cut’ in April of this year when police caught up with him.

Passing sentence, Magistrate Joseph told the defendant that his grandfather needed a rest from all those sleepless nights he had been having. He also told Charles his grandfather had told the police that he was a menace to him.

When being sentenced to six months in jail on each charge, to run concurrently, the magistrate told Charles “they would fatten you up over there”.
