Eight communities to be featured in back-in-time heritage tourism videos this month
This weekend, and every weekend for the rest of October, Searchlight will take Vincentians on a trip back in time to eight communities around the country as seen through video documentaries produced over 20 years ago.
The ‘On the Heritage Trail’ videos were filmed in 1997 and 1998 as the main community outreach programme of the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines (GOSVG) / Organization of American States Heritage Tourism Project. The programme was designed to introduce the concept of heritage tourism to local communities and to expand the inventory of heritage resources held by the Heritage Tourism Project and the GOSVG.
Each visit took the format of a host community introducing visitors from another area in St Vincent and the Grenadines to their community and served to establish bonds between community groups and allow Vincentians to see more of their country, and to develop greater levels of pride in our heritage resources. Each visit had an historical component, cultural performances, visits to craft persons, local food, music and visits to natural sites.
Searchlight will feature the eight videos, which were produced by Linmur Video Productions on the Searchlight newspaper Youtube page. A new video will be uploaded to the page every Friday and Saturday for the next four weekends beginning this evening, Friday, October 8, 2021, as part of this country’s celebration of our 42nd anniversary of Independence.
The schedule is as follows:
October 8 – Greggs
October 9 – Buccament
October 15 – Bequia
October 16 – Barrouallie
October 22 – North Windward
October 23 – Union Island
October 29 – North Leeward
