Teens fined after pleading guilty to stealing bicycles

Two teenage boys have been fined for stealing two bicycles.

Last week at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, Nimron Daniel, 19 and a 14-year-old pleaded guilty to stealing one black and blue mountain bike, valued at $500, the property of Jeremy Butler; and one black and white BMX stunt bike, valued at $980, the property of Kendra Dasilva, both of Langley Park.

The court heard that the teenagers stole the bikes between Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28.

The teens pleaded guilty to both charges and were fined $740 each.

The younger teen told the court that he had seen the bicycles previously and tried to remove them, but was unsuccessful, as someone had turned on the light before he could move the bikes.

On Independence night, the young men journeyed to Georgetown and were talking about bicycles.

The younger teen told Daniel about the bicycles, so they journeyed to the location. They waited around for some time, as persons were on the block.

The teens later stole the bicycles that were tied together under a porch. The two then journeyed to the old school in the area where the bicycles were untied.

Magistrate Burnett advised the mother of the 14-year-old to talk to her son, as his mind seems to be guided in a particular direction.

The young men must pay the fines by November 15.

Daniel’s mother paid $500 in court, leaving a balance of $240 which must be paid by November 15, failing which he faces six months in prison.(CJ)
