‘WIBB’ aims to bring female entrepreneurs in SVG together

A young female entrepreneur is planning an event that will bring together several of this country’s female business persons in a networking setting.

Jonique Chance, who runs NeeksGlam (an online cosmetic store), will host the Women in Business Brunch (WIBB) on Sunday, October 22, at Signature Restaurant, Lounge and Event Centre at Arnos Vale.

Chance told SEARCHLIGHT that she will be creating a setting where business women can interact with one another, guide and advise one another.

“If you are a female entrepreneur or an aspiring female entrepreneur, and you are shy with it and you don’t have the support system, I encourage you to come out,” said Chance.

The event will have as feature speaker, former banker and entrepreneur Laverne Gibson-Velox.

“She was a former bank manager, so I am very positive and I have faith in her that she will deliver a message that will help persons….

“I see her (Velox) as the right person to gift you with a speech on business management and how to go about with business,” said Chance.

She said that apart from Velox, she is hoping to have a representative from a banking institution to speak about options available to aspiring businesswomen.

She said that a businesswoman cannot always get the necessary or needed advice from other businesswomen, because they either don’t feel like sharing or they share the basics, things that are sometimes already known.

Added Chance, “to get in depth into business, like how to run a business, how to keep it afloat, how to brand and market your business, they don’t touch all of that, so it is really for people, current entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs to come out and learn something.”

Chance said in her opinion, most female entrepreneurs experience financial issues and some have issues like mixing business money with personal money, or thinking that they are making a profit when there’re not; so, she is seeking to have some of these issues addressed.

“Someone told me that it was impossible to do the brunch, because women don’t know how to come together and work as one and I look as that as motivation, because I want to prove that it can happen,” Chance said.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A gold package will cost EC$50, while a platinum package will cost EC$75.

The gold package includes a buffet breakfast, coffee, chocolate tea and no alcohol, while the platinum package includes alcohol (cocktails, mimosas, sangrias, wines, and champagne).

There will also be pop up shop stalls for persons with products they want to display and sell.

The event is asking for a classy and elegant dress code.(LC)
