Entrepreneur turns passion into opportunity with Dex Corp.

Entrepreneur turns passion into opportunity with Dex Corp.

A passion for technology, learning new things and dedication has resulted in a viable company for a young Vincentian.

In just eight months, 21-year-old Dexter Cain, through Dex Corp, a graphic design, motion graphics and mobile application development company, has worked with several popular companies in St Vincent to create promotional pieces that can be seen all over social media.

“From a very young age, I’ve always been into everything technology,” Cain told SEARCHLIGHT in a recent interview.

The young entrepreneur revealed that he is self-taught in the three services offered by his company.

He explained that he first started toying with mobile app development in 2014 when a team from the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) entered NTRC’s I-squared competition.

Now, Cain has several apps under his belt, two of those being the Jax Enterprises mobile app and Morning Watch Text, a daily morning devotional mobile app.

His start in graphic design came when a church member from the Richland Park Seventh-Day Adventist Church asked him to design a flyer to promote the Richland Park SDA School’s 70th commemorative magazine.

“I had no knowledge of how to use Photoshop or any other graphical software,” he said. “I went on YouTube, looked at several tutorials and videos and then produced a piece of artwork.”

Cain said that he was then asked to design the actual layout of the magazine.

Currently, the Richland Park resident is employed with Jax Enterprises and produces videos for the company.

“I’ve learnt a lot and for every video I’ve produced, I’ve been improving on previous ones,” he said.

He has also created video pieces for SVG Tyres Sales and Services, Dasco Pharmacy and Kendra’s Aluminum.

Though Cain describes himself as a quiet individual, he has no problem letting his work do the talking for him, as persons who work closely with him say that he is something of a perfectionist.

Voice talent and radio announcer Earl Abbott told SEARCHLIGHT that has been working with the 21-year-old for the past three years.

And he describes Cain as “a Swiss army knife of abilities.”

“He came in as a junior employee, but now he’s an indispensable part of the business. Without Dexter, it’s hard to get anything done,” Abbott said.

“He is so mentally wired. He is analytical; he is about looking at a situation, assessing it and letting his brain process the information and come up with a solution.”

And the voice talent commended Cain on his business and talents, noting that he has achieved a lot in a short space of time.

Although his company is still in its early stages, Cain hopes that Dex Corp will become known as “the new face in these three fields – graphic design, video production and mobile app development.”

Persons interested in utilizing services offered at Dex Corp can find more information at dexcorpsvg.com or visit the Facebook page at facebook.com/dexcorpsvg.
