Curtains come down on VINLEC’s Generation Department training programme today
A five-day training programme for nine employees of VINLECâs Generation Department comes to an end today.
The course in Maintenance and Servicing Procedures for Air Conditioning Units, which began on July 24, was held at VINLECâs Training Room.
The objectives of the training were to introduce participants to the basics in refrigeration principles and refrigeration and air-conditioning safety, provide participants with an understanding of basic servicing and maintenance procedures for air-conditioning units and inform about ozone and other environmental concerns.
During the five-day period, participants engaged in classroom sessions, as well as practical exercises at Cane Hall. They examined basic air-conditioning systems, heat transfer principles, establishing safe working practices and air-conditioning components. The participants also looked at refrigerant safety, diagnostic chats, service and maintenance procedures, among others.
Senior generation engineer Augustus Ambrose noted that the training is necessary as the company has air-conditioning units at multiple locations across the country. He said this training will provide the knowledge and skills necessary to allow the trained personnel to address routine issues. He encouraged the participants to embrace the opportunity for learning.
The training was facilitated by Gary Peters â lecturer in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration at the St Vincent Community College, Division of Technical and Vocational Institute. Peters told the participants that it is important that they acquire the information and skills if they want to be successful in this field. He noted that the technology continues to change and encouraged them to keep abreast with what is happening in the industry. The participants will receive Certificates of Participation/Completion.
