2017 Colour Run promises to be fun, yet active experience
Organizers of the upcoming Obstacle Colour Run are promising a fun, yet active experience, with the overall aim of raising awareness for diabetes and hypertension in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
This third installment of the colour run is slated for August 1 and will include a variety of obstacles scattered over six kilometres, starting at the Richmond Hill Playing Field and ending at SOV at Villa.
Keyon Constance, organizer and director at Islandwide Fitness, revealed that wall climbing, leopard crawling and tyre jumping are just some activities to expect in the obstacle segment of the event. In addition, he said that participants will be blasted every one kilometre with coloured powder, which is expected to add to the fun experience.
âEveryone is going to start off all dressed and looking nice in white, clean and at the end, you should be looking dirty and colourful,â Constance told SEARCHLIGHT on Wednesday.
âAnd after all that walking and all that colour, enjoyment and obstacles, weâre gonna still finish off with an amazing workout session.â
Participants will also have a chance to have their blood pressure and sugar levels checked at the finish line at the Health Fair, which will be facilitated by Trinity Medical College.
Constance, who is also vice-president of the Diabetic and Hypertensive Association, revealed that all proceeds of the event will go to the association. He added that raising awareness for diabetes and hypertension was an important factor of the colour run.
âThe previous events we had, targeted a lot of adults, but even if we have targeted adults, weâve been having a lot of young people come out and Iâm really excited that a lot of young people come out, because we want to teach them to prevent diabetes and hypertension,â he said.
âAnd the best way to prevent this is exercise and proper eating, so we want to get younger persons involved in physical activities, as well as older folks, because itâs never too late to get involved.â
The organizer told SEARCHLIGHT that the run will cater for 1,500 persons. And to ensure that everyone has a chance to participate, transportation will be available from Barrouallie and Georgetown for persons who may have difficulty arriving for the 7 a.m. start time.
Childrenâs packages are priced at $25, while adult packages are $35. For persons interested, tulle skirts are also available for $50. A $5 dollar discount is available for groups of 10 or more persons.(BK)
