Puppet show, workshop: ‘UNIVERSE’

Youth and adults in St Vincent and the Grenadines got an opportunity to discover the world of puppets through a performance of the ZigZag Company from Martinique on May 26 and 27.

It was arranged by the Alliance Française of St Vincent and the Grenadines, the director of Culture of Martinique and the General Delegation of the Alliances Françaises of the Lesser Antilles.

Alliance Française’s first mission is to teach the French language, but it is also very important that it fulfill its mandate of promoting cultural diversity and reinforcing ties between St Vincent and France, especially its French departments in the region. Professional puppeteers from Martinique, Estelle Butin and Virgil Venance, “offered a wonderful performance that amazed the young and old on the theme of biodiversity and protection of the universe” on May 26, at 7 p.m. at the Sugar Mill Academy. They also conducted a two-hour workshop on creating a puppet show, in partnership with the Youlou Art Centre on May 27. Puppets hold an important part in the live theatre art in France and it was a pleasure to be able to share this for the first time in St Vincent and the Grenadines, the pair noted.

Alliance Française SVG has expressed gratitude to all partners, individuals and businesses who contributed to the success of the events.
