Vincentian promoted to professor at The UWI

Dr Joel Warrican has been promoted to the rank of professor within the Open Campus of the University of the West Indies, with retroactive effect from January 21, 2016.

Warrican, a Vincentian, has been described as an “established leader in teacher education, with several chapters in leading handbooks on literacy education…his exemplary research serves as a model for teacher education and literacy and for action research methods.”

As the current director of the Academic Programming and Delivery (APAD) Division, Professor Warrican holds primary responsibility for the processes involved in academic programme planning, development and delivery of all the online and blended programmes and courses offered through the Open Campus. Professor Warrican is charged also with the critical function of managing all faculty-related aspects of the Campus, as well as working with the undergraduate and graduate Academic Boards of the University to ensure the rigorous review of all academic offerings from the Open Campus. He and his team within APAD also assist the Quality Assurance Office of the University with promoting and maintaining the accreditation of the Campus.

Professor Warrican is a trained teacher, who holds a PhD in Education and an MPhil in Educational Research from the University of Cambridge, as well as a BEd in Language Arts Education from The UWI. He has over 30 years of direct teaching experience at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels across the Caribbean region since 1984.
