Vincy bikers, drivers head to St Lucia for Independence celebrations
A delegation of Vincentian bikers and off-road drivers has travelled to St Lucia to take part in that countryâs independence celebrations.
Members of the SVG Motorcycle Club and the 4 X 4 Samurai Heroes will be participating in vehicular competitions and other activities over a seven-day period to commemorate St Luciaâs 38th year of independence.
SEARCHLIGHT spoke with SVG Motorcycle Club directors Bronson Durrant and Carl Prescott last Wednesday, February 15, and they declared that they are hopeful that the delegation will come away successful â and have fun in the process.
Durrant said that the Vincentian participants (42 bikers and several other drivers) will take part in seven days of motoring activities, including off-road events, drag racing and sound-off events.
He also disclosed that, in particular, he is hoping that Team T.H.U.G will retain the title of sound-off champions, as they won the event last year when a visiting St Lucian delegation came to take part in SVGâs independence celebrations.
The SVG Motorcycle Club has been taking part in St Luciaâs independence events since 2001. However, this year the organization is sending its largest delegation ever.
Durrant also noted that he is expecting this yearâs participation to be particularly enjoyable, because it is the first year that St Lucian authorities are allowing visiting vehicles to drive on public roads.
Public relations officer of the 4 X 4 Samurai Heroes Frankie Marks told SEARCHLIGHT that members Hanif Adams and Dexter John will be representing the organization in the 4 X 4 off-road events and the 4 x 4 time challenge.
Marks also pointed out that this is not only be the first time that the 4 X 4 Samurai Heroes Club will be heading to St Lucia to take part in events, but also the first time that there will be 4 X 4 vehicle events in St Lucia for this particular occasion. (JSV)
