Miriamâs plan to break up Susan and Sharpie appears to be working – but now comes the news that Susan is carrying Sharpieâs child. Would Sharpie change his mind about his relationship with Miriam?{{more}}
âSharpie,â whispers Miriam, âI donât think itâs a good idea to tell Susan about us.â
âYo have the money?â Sharpie asks, ignoring Miriamâs concern.
âSusan is me friend and I donât…â, she slips Sharpie the money. âI donât want Susan finding outâ.
Sharpie counts the money and laughs. âA wat dis? Only 250, me ask for 500â he said.
âItâs all I can get. Please donât tell Susan about us.â
âGet me another $250 and I wonât tell Susan a tingâ.
Miriam felt that she was being blackmailed. She really didnât want to her hurt her best friend. The dilemma that she found herself in left her with nowhere to turn. âOk, donât say a word, you hearâ.
âYou best goâ, Sharpie smiled as he playfully smacked Miriam on the bottom.
âSee your best friend a come.â
Miriam ducked down lower behind the van so that she would not be seen. As Susan approached, Miriam slipped around the back to head home.
âHi Sharpieâ said a bubbly Susan âah have some good newsâ.
Sharpie loved Susan when she was in her bright moods. âWhat, yo win lotto?â he asks jokingly?
âNo, better than thatâ.
âWhat can be better than money?â
âMe pregnant.â
There was a long pause as Sharpie stared at Susan, âWhat? Fu me?â
âYes, who else? You not happy to hear the news?â said Susan in shock.
âMe nah want no picneyâ says Sharpie bluntly. âMe already have five anâ me nah warâ no moreâ.
âBut you said you love meâ.
âMe nah see no ring pan yo fingerâ.
âYou said you want to us to get marriedâ.
âGirl, you ah tek things too seriousâ.
âSharpie I donât believe this, why are you saying this, why have you changed?â
âMe nah change, ah you change. Gone go get pregnant, and who say for sure ah mine?â
âItâs your child!â shouted Susan.
âAh so you sayâ.
Susan starts sobbing uncontrollably.
âDoh bother cry. As a matter ah facâ, lissen me. Ah seeing someone else anâ is she me really loveâ.
Susan looked at him, âWhat? Who is she?â
âYou donât need to know that my dearâ. Sharpie regarded her with pity. âLookâ he said softly. âHere is some moneyâ He pushed the rolled up bundle of money in her hand.
âDash wey the pickneyâ.
The tears rolled down Susanâs cheek and soaked the money in her hand as she tried to wipe them away. What just happened? Did Sharpie say âDash wey the pickneyâ? Susan reflected on what had just happened. Sharpie made a fool out of her. She pondered on Sharpieâs advice, should she throw away the child?
âMiriam, is it true that Susan and Sharpie are getting married?â asked Ras.
So the rumours are true, Miriam thought. Susan and Sharpie are going to get married. All her plans to be Sharpieâs girl are going to be ruined. Now she will never escape home, even worse sheâll probably end up in the same situation as Susan, pregnant but by her own father. The very thought broke Miriam down in tears.
âMiriam! Miriam! Wat wrong?â Ras was truly worried. He knew that she liked Sharpie but he really didnât know that she liked him that much. So much for making Miriam his wife.
âSharpie nah really worth it, he…â
âIâm not crying because of him!â she blurted out. Miriam felt ashamed, she didnât want to snap at Ras, it wasnât his fault, he had always been there for her; he had been a true friend. Deep down Miriam wanted to be more than Rasâs friend; but if she told him her dark secret, would he still want her?
âThen what is it?â asked Ras coaxingly.
Miriam found herself in a quandary. Should she tell Ras?
