NORTH LEEWARD – 1989-2001

As a constituency, North Leeward has the largest geographic span- from Fitz Hughes to Spring Village and incorporating Chateaubelair, Petit Bordel, Rose Bank, Troumaca, Rose Hall, Coulls Hill and Spring Village.

John Thompson was the candidate for the St. Vincent Labour Party from 1984-1994. Even when he won as he did in 1984 his percentage of votes was always below 50. In 1984 he received 45.9 percent of the votes, the lowest of the winning candidates. He was replaced in 1998 by his son as candidate for the SVLP. In 2001, he won the North Leeward seat with 53.1 percent of the votes.

Alpian Allen won the North Leeward Seat in 1989, 1994 and 1998 but was replaced in 2001 by Roland Mathews.

North Leeward has always been an interesting constituency with Petit Bordel, Spring Village and Coulls Hill favouring the NDP and Rose Hall and Rose Bank the ULP. The one vote margin of victory in the last elections tells its own story.
