Create an effective blog by doing these four things!
Recently, I had the pleasure of being one of the facilitators for the Ministry of Tourism’s Digital Content Creation workshop. This got me thinking! We don’t often talk about blogging but it is a helpful marketing tool for your business/brand.
Contrary to what some may believe, blogging is not only for persons keeping an online journal. Your brand can become more visible through active blogging.
When used effectively, it can lead to meaningful relationships with your target audience, boost search engine optimization and increase website traffic. Here are a few tips to help you:
Establish audience and a voice
So, you want to create a blog but who is it intended for? That chosen target audience is possibly searching for your brand/business and want to learn more; with that in mind, you should know specifically who the audience is so you can create a blog that’s geared towards them and the questions they may have. When the audience interest is at the top of the agenda, it gets easier to plan the blog.
You know I always preach consistency, so what’s the ‘voice’ for your intended blog? Ensure it’s consistent throughout the posts. Blogs tend to be written in a less formal voice so the business remains personable.
Make a posting schedule
Get the most out of your blog with regular posting. There is some website content that can remain the same over long periods of time but frequent blogging helps to create new content. Develop a posting schedule and decide on your topics ahead of time. As hard as it may be at times, try to push the content out on time.
Structure is important
Blogs are not meant to be intense. A good length can be between 250-500 words but that can change depending on the blog’s audience and purpose. Put yourself in the position of your reader, how much time will you be willing to give up to read a post?
Incorporate sub-headers to give some structure and maintain a relaxed feel.
Don’t be afraid to outsource
Blogging can become time consuming and it may not be your strength. To get results, it does take some commitment. If you don’t have the time, delegate or outsource it so you can have consistently updated, unique, brand focused content that will benefit your business.
